Contracanto: BBCSO Learning Project

This was a massive project I did with the BBC Symphony Orchestra. As part of the Total Immersion celebrations we created an exciting new piece, ‘Contracanto’, inspired by the music of Villa Lobos under the leadership of Detta Danford, Natasha Zielazinski and Jo Wills.

The piece combines massed forces of children’s voices, samba drummers, young instrumentalists, a brass band and a big family chorus. I was part of the team that worked with the instrumentalists and I joined as violinist in the process of creating and performing. We made a recording of our piece in the BBC recording studio and we performed the piece on the Barbican FreeStage.
