A little story:
As a workshop leader for a project with refugees, I was struck by a moment of connection with one of the participants. As there was no shared language of Dutch, English or Arabic, and we were both tiered from the long day of work, Ameer and I sat silently next to each other, waiting till the end of the break. Suddenly, he started humming a couple of notes. I was surprised, but soon joined in, and we hummed back and forth for a while in a simple, yet powerful way. When the break was finished, we went back to the working space, both with silent smiles on our faces. |
In my work as facilitator, I strive to create a space for people to open their ears, hearts and creativity to meet each other in a different way. To reimagine who we are and what we sound like as a group, just as Ameer was inviting me to do during that beautiful humming moment. |
