Katie Duck's Summer Course
For one week I took part in the improvisation summer course of Katie Duck. I had worked with Katie before during her Christmas Course and the Thursday sessions in Amsterdam.
Katie is a very inspiring dancer and improvisation teacher. Through her direct way of working and feedback she will let you experience her knowledge and view on improvisation/instant composition. She challenges people to make honest, egoless decisions while being aware of everything happening in the space. As a violinist it is interesting to be in a workshop led by a dancer, especially as Katie has amazing ears and is very aware of the music and the musicians presence in the space. During the week I further explored my own movement with and without violin and started experimenting with the use of text and more theatrical improvisation. I got confronted with some of my improvisation habits and challenged in developing my chosen music and movement material. It was an inspiring week and I am looking forward to working with Katie again in the future. |
